- Data from administrative databases
The national medico-administrative databases that enrich the data collected are the National Health Data System (SNDS) and the socio-occupational databases of the National Retirement Fund (CNAV). They contain data of particular interest in the fields of research and public health. However, they cannot replace questionnaires, particularly as they do not include information on most risk factors linked to lifestyle (tobacco, alcohol, diet, sleep, etc.), working conditions or the environment.
The National Health Data System
The National Health Data System contains standardized, structured and coded individual reimbursement and hospitalization data.
All information on the services submitted for reimbursement is recorded. These include consultations (general practitioners or specialists), radiology procedures, pharmacy deliveries (prescription drugs), physiotherapy sessions, nursing procedures, medical devices (glasses, hearing aids, etc.), biological analyses, etc. For each service, accounting information is also available (cost, amount reimbursed, out-of-pocket expenses, etc.), as well as the notion of exemption from co-payment granted by the medical services for long-term illnesses, work accidents or occupational diseases. The exonerating condition is coded according to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10). Covid-19 data are also available.
All hospital stays give rise to the collection of administrative and medical data. They include medical information, such as procedures carried out during the stay (scans, biopsies, surgical interventions, etc.) and the diagnoses that led to hospitalization or certain associated diseases; administrative information on stays (establishment, care unit, dates, duration, etc.) are also recorded.
Date, place, medical cause.
The database of the National Health Retirement Fund (CNAV)
The database of the National Retirement Funds (CNAV) concerns socio-occupational status on a forward-looking basis, from the first event in a person’s life (employment or social benefit) entitling them to a pension: employment status, type of job and contract, salary, pensions, periods of activity/non-activity (unemployment, absence due to illness, maternity, etc.), etc.
